What your trying to do is wonderful,and I agree with everyone on geting a 501(c)3 certification.The cost of the cert is different from state to state,in Wisconsin about 700.00.

Your best bet to raise money is holding a bake sale and possibly talking to one of your local churches to hold it on their property....I know few people who turn down a good bake sale at a church.

You can also look online for independent parties donating to causes such as your,there's tons of organisations that donate money,it just takes time and research.In most cases they take applications in spring or fall.

Utility companies do offer a payment plan and in most cases where a child is involved they will work with you.

Otherwise the only other suggestion is to contact the county and see if you qualify for AFDC.

If the situation is bad enough you may lose your kids' over it,I'd think family may step in,but I don't know your situation.
